What is Thermowood?

Hardwood Performance from Environmentally-Friendly Softwood
Thermowood is produced using heat & steam and NO chemicals are added that could have an impact on the environment. The heat treating process involves passing quality softwood raw material through special kilns under strictly controlled conditions at temperatures in excess of 210 degrees C. This heating process alters the molecular structure of the timber resulting in a material with greatly enhanced qualities and ability to withstand demanding weather conditions without the need for preservatives.

Why use Thermowood?

  • Moisture content is reduced by up to 50% - low susceptibility to moisture & rot.
  • Exceptionally increased dimensional stability over normal softwood – swelling and shrinkage are greatly reduced.
  • Increased strength over untreated timbers by up to 20% - reduced bending & splitting.
  • High resistance to warping & twisting.
  • Greatly increased durability – life expectancy as long if not longer that that of chemically treated timbers.

Where to use Thermowood?

The exceptional durability of Thermowood makes it particularly suitable for exterior applications such as decking, cladding, fencing and trellis work, garden furniture and other outdoor constructions such as pergolas and car ports. As no chemicals are added to the timber, it is an ideal material to use in organic gardens.

It’s increased stability also makes it suitable for indoor use such as interior cladding, flooring, saunas, door & window frames and indoor furniture.

As no chemicals are added to the timber, any waste produced when working can be simply burnt without any pollution.
